Shareholders and Committees

Shareholders

The GWDG is a joint institution of the University of Göttingen - Public Law Foundation and the Max Planck Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V., which thus constitute the two partners and are involved in equal parts. In 2005, the Land of Lower Saxony had transferred its share of the GWDG the Foundation University Göttingen.

The GWDG has both a supervisory board and a user representative who perceive different tasks.

Supervisory Board

The supervisory board of the GWDG has to meet the rights and duties prescribed by the legislator, in particular monitoring and advising the management. These include the following in particular: It collects the detected requirements for data processing in research and administration of scientific institutes, proposes changes and updates of services offered by the GWDG and services and assesses them with the GWDG. The GWDG informs the user representation committee about planned applications of new IT technologies and new content and forms of services. The user representation committee can comment on this information and relays it to the users of its field.
