Trusted Cloud Computing for Engineering

Project Goals

Cloud4E was a German research project consisting of five consortium partners from science and business to supply flexible simulation solutions for technical product development in the cloud for medium-sized enterprises. The results of this project reduce the inhibition level using cutting-edge computerized develop environments significant, because finance investments in hard- and software and staff expenses could be reduced through using cloud infrastructures.

Standardized open interfaces provide easy and safe access to the simulation services on the service-, the platform- and the infrastructure layer. Tools and models are controlled automatically and configurable through the user with the required resources available on virtual machines in the cloud. The resources of the cloud brake peak loads and it is not necessary to provide local resources. A further key aspect is the safe and reliable security infrastructure during the workflow. One of the project partners plans to use the application as a software-as-a-service tool based on his key product.

GWDG’s Role in the project

The GWDG took part in six of seven work packages in the Cloud4E project. In course of this the GWDG developed leading the basic architecture (evaluation of available cloud solutions, specification of application types, interfaces and services). Within the work package “Security” the GWDG developed solutions for data security, data integrity, graceful degradation, authentication, and authorization.

At the 17. ITI Symposiums from 3. - 5.11. 2014 in Dresden the GWDG presented together with her project partners the latest state of research. ITI was one of the partners and coordinated the Cloud4E project.
