HPC
Since 2021 GWDG and the University of Göttingen have been one of eight Centers for National High Performance Computing (NHR Centers) nationwide. For GWDG and the University of Göttingen this represents a continuation of the HLRN project, in which additional funding is now available for computing resources, research, teaching and user consulting. The special focus is on expanding competencies in the areas of life sciences, earth system sciences, fluid mechanics, AI and Big Data, and digital humanities. Here, GWDG forms the NHR-North together with the ZIB and their joint expert consulting network.
Your Requirement
You need complex model computations or extensive data analysis for your research. The software you use for this purpose has special requirements, and is therefore not suited for standard servers.
Our Offer
We offer you a comprehensive range of high performance computing (HPC) resources, i.e., servers with high processing power, large memory or disk space, or a powerful high speed interconnect for parallel applications, along with the corresponding consulting services.
High Performance Computing
High Performance Computing (HPC) gained a lot of relevance in numerous scientific fields in the last few years. Whereas this has been the case for numerical simulations in natural sciences and engineering for a long time, there is currently also a pronounced increase of HPC usage for big data analyses and bioinformatics applications. With new scientific fields there are also new challenges for the operators of HPC-systems, which are tackled in collaborative projects.
The GWDG hosts the local "Scientific Compute Cluster" (SCC), which enables all researchers of the Max Planck Society and the University of Göttingen to run their parallel data- and compute-intensive applications. The GWDG can also help in the procurement process of department-owned resources - from the proposal to the operation. These resources can be hosted within the integrated operational concept for HPC resources or, in case of special requirements, as standalone systems.
The most powerful HPC systems operated by GWDG are the Göttingen sites of the North German Supercomputing Alliance ("Norddeutscher Verbund für Hoch- und Höchstleistungsrechnen" - HLRN) and, from end of 2020, of the German Aerospace Center ("Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt" - DLR).
